How did you first become interested in your line of business? (if owner) - What is your background? (If owner or store manager)
Bud Brewster, a local entertainer from as early as the late 40s, became a natural at running a music store as well as other local celebrities who would frequent our store from the beginning in May of 1975. He bought the store in 1979 and has owned it ever since. He is retired now and the store is operated by his daughter, Tami, who has managed the store since 1983.
How do you differentiate yourself from other businesses in your category and area?
Pick'n'Grin has always specialized in acoustic instruments and instruction. We also have a great reputation for carrying a HUGE selection of accessories and books.
How many locations do you have and do you have plans to expand?
We have one location in West Knoxville. With the present state of the economy, we have no plans to expand so that we can focus on just one big awesome store.
Provide detailed directions to your location
From I-40 West, take Papermill Rd exit (383) and take the next 3 left turns at the next 3 lights.( You will be headed east on Kingston Pike) Go approximately 1/10th of a mile and turn right in between Buddy's Barbq & Sonic (5800 block) We sit directly behind that Sonic. From I-40 East take Exit 383 Papermill Road and go straight at that light which will put you on Northshore Drive. Turn left at the next light onto Kingston Pike and go approximately 1/10th of a mile , in the right lane, and turn right in between Buddy's Barbq & Sonic (5800 block) We sit directly behind that Sonic.
